A beach city on the East Sea, with coffee on the shore, a calm lake and old wooden houses.
Known for
- Gangmun and Gyeongpo beaches, split by the Sotdae footbridge
- Anmok Beach coffee street, the heart of Gangneung's cafe scene
- Ojukheon, the birthplace of the scholar Yulgok
What to do
Walk the beach and the Gangmun footbridge, have coffee at Anmok, and visit Ojukheon. Try soft tofu in Chodang. Anbandegi is a highland for stars.
Tip: Buses and taxis link the beaches, the old sights and Jeongdongjin, so plan a full day.
